Easter at Talavera - Tuesday

Today, before we started doing anything, we all explored the gorse flowers which Mrs Harman-Box had brought in. We were so interested in the edible plants from yesterday that she thought we might like to experience this flower which strangely smells like coconut! We were very careful though, even when we were testing to see just how spiky it is!

We kicked off the proper day with Joe Wicks - despite our best efforts, we didn't get a shout out but we will keep trying!
Then, we drew silly faces (keeping the eyes, nose and mouth separate). We used this to tick off number 1 on the National Trust's 50 Things to do before 11 3/4: get to know a tree. We blu-tacked the faces to the trees which we thought matched the characters we had created and introduced them to each other.
We also completed number 2: roll down a really big hill. Well, we did the best we could with our small hills! Unfortunately, we got completely soaked doing this because the sun hadn't warmed the grass through yet. Luckily, we could lie down on the warm playground and complete number 33: go cloud watching.
After break, we thought about how we could complete number 3 (camp outdoors) and decided to combine it with number 4 (build a den). We used sticks, blankets and pillows to create a safe and comfortable environment for ourselves. Unluckily, Mrs Harman-Box found her water pistol and tested to see if our shelters were as waterproof as we thought... it turns out they weren't!
We also practised skimming stones (number 5) by creating a static water source using classroom trays! It's important to think outside the box when you've got limited resources!
In order to complete number 7 (fly a kite), we needed to build a kite. We did this using dowling left over from our DT days, bin bags and string. It was back out to the hills to try and catch some wind to make our creations soar.
After afternoon break, we had some free time, relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. We chose whether we wanted to finish our footprint paintings from yesterday, read outside in the sun or watch a film.
