Marwell Zoo Trip for Year 5

Our trip to Marwell Zoo was a brilliant day! We saw and learnt many new and interesting facts about animals and their habitats. Such as, giraffes have a neck 2x the size of their legs, penguin’s flippers are shaped like feet (this makes them more streamlined and so helps them swim faster) and cheetahs are very scared of people, donkeys and dogs!
We visited the tropical house which gave us a first hand experience of the high temperatures and humidity (our coats came off straight away!) and a science workshop where we got to stroke a boa constrictor and a hissing cockroach. Interestingly, cockroaches are fundamental to the survival of a rainforest because they clean the forest floor and fertalize the soil!
All in all, it was a wonderul day and we even struck luck with the weather!
