Year 5 Science More Able Event

On Friday 12th January, Talavera hosted a science more able event as part of our local cluster initiative to improve opportunities for higher attaining pupils. Children from Manor Junior School, Wellington Primary and Alderwood Junior School came to participate in the science afternoon, working alongside 5 of our own year 5 pupils. The theme for the event was ‘Do You Have What it Takes to be an Astronaut?’ which required the children to conquer a series of science/mathematical based challenges to pass through astronaut training. Throughout the course of the afternoon, the children completed memory/fitness tests (whilst plotting results on a scatter graph), tested their knowledge of space objects (whilst using a classification key) and designed and conducted their own scientific investigation to answer a question delivered by famous astronaut Tim Peake.  All of the children successfully graduated from the Talavera Astronaut Training Programme and had a wonderful time developing as scientists!
