Year 6 Trip to the Imperial War Museum

On Friday 24th March, Year 6 went up to London to visit the Imperial War Museum as part of their World at War topic.

The children were amazed at a wide range of exhibitions on display, especially enjoying learning about World War 1 as they began to understand the factors that contributed to the declaration of war in World War 2. The museum offered the children some great opportunities for learning and interaction, including: getting inside an Anderson shelter; walking through a 1940s house; trying on British army uniforms; and even running through a series of tasks to see if they were war-ready.
Our day out has helped children to develop their understanding of World War 2 but also to discover small details about life at the time which they had not previously known. It also gave our children the excellent opportunity to practise travelling by train and being safe when travelling.
