RNLI Assembly

On Monday 13th November we had a special assembly all about the RNLI. Mrs Butler and Alex McIntyre (Bengal Tigers) led at the front with all of the equipment that Alex's Dad had lent us for the assembly. The children learnt all about the equipment used to help save the lives of people in and around Hayling Island the children were introduced to the:

Crewsaver Lifejacket

RNLI Gecko helmet

Yellow Wellies

Typhoon Dry Suit

Shore crew Waterproofs

They also learnt about the B-548 Atlantic 21 Aldershot which was placed in service in November 1980 and was donated by the Aldershot branch at a cost of £25,000 (today that boat would cost £180,000) the Aldershot was one of the most decorated lifeboats serving for 15 years in Hayling Island and rescuing hundreds of people and boats, one day she rescued 12 people over an 8 hour period and at one point had to drop people off as the boat was so full..

One of the last big rescues was in 1992 when the Aldershot rescued 17 crew from a 75ft yacht in  a 50mph gale near Chichester.

Thank you to Paul McIntyre for lending us the equipment to help broaden our children's experiences.
