Talavera Blog

Dear Community,

Please take a few minutes to read our blog. As a Head Teacher, there is always so much we want to tell you about our children, their education and the future. Sometimes, it is really important to capture a moment or a time and share that with you. I hope this blog does this and gives you an insight into my vision for us as a community.

Here at Talavera we are passionate about creating a well-rounded and creative curriculum which provides all children with essential knowledge taught through a range of learning styles and experiences. Over the years I have been at Talavera, I have watched our children grow in confidence due to the passion we have developed for independence and well-informed children. Ensuring children are able to communicate with ease and fluency in a range of subjects allows our children to articulately express their thoughts and considerations about their learning.

Last Friday, we held our Nepali Day celebrations. As part of this, the community is welcomed into school and traditional food, songs and dancing are shared with the rest of the school. It gives us the opportunity to thank you our Nepali community for the value that they bring to our school so it’s odd to think that just a few years ago we were not running events like this. Our calendar is now full of a huge range of events, each one targets to both provide an acknowledgement of the contribution and support we are given as a school, and to increase engagement with a vulnerable group.

I have been at Talavera Junior School for a little while now but this is my first blog! I am very fortunate that part of my role here at Talavera has been working with staff and parents organising some of the fundraising events and it is something that I thoroughly enjoy. Last year saw us have 'A night of 100 smiles' and then 'A night of 100 smiles take 2'. We raised money for the school whilst having lots of fun with Gameshows, dancing and playing prize bingo!!! The circus came to Talavera and it was such a success that we have re-booked and it will return to us in 2021.

As 2020 is now in full swing, it is important to revisit our core vision as a school and our place in the community.  Our OUTSTANDING OFSTED was such a pinnacle point in our development; it established our school and confirmed to the wider community the quality of education we provide.  The report captured our school perfectly.  It stated that, “every pupil at Talavera Junior School makes rapid progress in the development of their skills, understanding and knowledge across the curriculum. The school’s vision that ‘every minute counts’ is enacted in practice throughout the curriculum.” This is indeed the heart of our school and continues to be day in and day out.
